Is tracking weight healthy?

I have in my time as a coach come across many with a history of disordered eating or obsessive habits. Which makes this a tricky subject to talk about

But here we are looking at a recently recorded weight trend (mine)
Weight trends, why is that important?
It’s important because it’s the first thing everyone misses when it comes to talking about tracking weight. 10/10 times if I talk to someone about weight, the trend is never what they talk about. Instead, they talk about their lowest weight, and highest weight and how those numbers make them feel. They never mention what their trend is showing or what direction the trend is going 🤔Simply because they don’t have enough data to make a fair judgement.
Often we look at the wrong information and never get the right guidance. We don’t know who to turn to, leaving us to the will of MARKETING and misrepresented information 😬Although information is everywhere. Not all information is for you! Some information is best left to professionals or at least those who can break down a bold claim and make it make sense. If that’s not the case, listen with caution.
If you believe tracking weight to be healthy or unhealthy, you’re right
Ultimately weight is whatever you believe it to be. In the eyes of a professional, weight is just information. Like how much money is in your account, how tall are you, how many glasses of water have you drank today, how many days until your next birthday, and how old are the members of your family... You get the point
Weight tracking can be so informative in the right hands, when done right you begin to predict what can happen and you can bring clarity to why/when certain things happen. Ultimately you can make alterations to habits to produce favourable outcomes. Weight trended up this month, what does that mean to you? Are you eating good food and your energy is way better, is your skin full and clear, have you been able to enjoy more social events Or is it that your clothes are a little uncomfortably tight, are you jiggling a little more than you’d like when being athletic, is it making your body uncomfortable, or has it impacted health markers negatively...
What you make weight mean to you is down to your own personal beliefs around weight, specifically your weight.
As a coach weight to me means, are we losing fat, gaining muscle or are we fuelling correctly for performance all depending on what the training and trend is like according to each goal.
